This In June I attended the Recognition and Installation of Officers at the /White Oak Volunteer Rescue Squad. Their guest speaker spoke of the Squad as second family to the members, but only if we look out for one another. The calls the crews respond to are not always appropriate for dinner conversation with family. Just like not fully comprehending what happens to our military in battle. We are touched in some way by the interactions we have with our patients. The good and the bad. The bad ones can change us dramatically. We might not want to return to duty. Our temper flares a little sooner. Or maybe we just get quiet. Our squad members do look out for each other and we have Critical Incident Stress Management group that can help. The first step is someone asking for help. So watch for changes in family members if there has been a difficult time. Maybe they just need someone to listen to them. Maybe they need more, but you won’t know unless you ask. The Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad are celebrating 28 years for service to Aquia Harbour and Stafford County. Starting with just 10 members in 1989, members responded on 2 person teams in their personal vehicles. In 1990 the first ambulance arrived and we have grown since then. Like all organizations, membership has gone up and down. Currently membership is growing. Many Friday nights members staff both an Advanced Life Support(ALS)crew and a Basic Ambulance(BLS). The picture galleries show the many activities in which the squad has participated. Thanks for your support.
