July 21, 1989-2014 Celebrating 25 Years of Service

“Harbour 9 available for calls.” July 21st, 1989, the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad officially entered into the emergency medical response system here in Stafford County. The Squad was designated as Harbour 9 because in July 1989 we did not have an ambulance, just an old repainted sheriff’s cruiser. Our volunteer EMTs responded in teams of two, one in his/her private vehicle and the other in the response vehicle. We treated and prepared the patient for transport by another incoming crew. Our first ambulance came in January of 1990 a donation from the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad with the help from the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads District vice president Kevin Dillard. The building came in 1991. The squad membership has remained fairly steady between 40-60 members, but with members in different stages of training, not everyone can run a crew. The squad is constantly looking for new members. We need drivers, all levels of EMTs and administrative personnel. The squad knows that EMS (emergency medical services) is not for everyone. We see people on their worst days. We study and train to make that day our best at what we do. Whether it is a CPR, treating an injury or illness, holding the hand of a cancer patient or delivering a baby, we train to be the best. Please join us on Sunday, July 27 between 2-4 for an Open House at the station at the gate 1001 Washington Drive for a tour of the building, ambulance and fire engine(if they are not on a call). Free refreshments. As parking is limited please consider walking if possible, we have a few parking spaces we will keep open for the handicapped On behalf of the members of Aquia Harbour Volunteer Squad I thank you for your support these past 25 years
