June 2023

The American Heart Association celebrates National CPR /AED Awareness Week June 1-7 this
year.

Statistics from the American Heart Association:
Heart Disease remains the No. 1 cause of death in the United States, according to 2020 data.
Heart disease and stroke claim more lives each year in the United States than all forms of cancer
and Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease (CLRD) combined.

The Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue squad will be offering free Hands Only CPR training on
Saturday, June 3rd and 24th from 9:30 to noon. One class every half hour. There is no certification
with this training, you will just be learning the who, what, and when techniques for
CPR.(Recognitions and compressions) Sign up ahead of time by emailing me at
cschoon@ahvrs.org to secure a spot or just drop in. We can handle 6 participants at a time.

We will also offer a community CPR/AED class with certification on Saturday, June 17 th 9:30
to1:30 pm. This has a cost of $20 to help pay for the cost of the AHA certification cards. I can
have up to 6 in the classroom. Again, sign up at email listed or call 540-295-0881, if you have
any questions. If needed, we may be able to offer more dates and times.

Our goal is to get more members of the community trained. When CPR is started early, the
patient’s chance of survival increases greatly. Be a part of the Chain of Survival.
