July 31, 2022

August is Summer Sun Safety Month. There are still many sunny days ahead, so take precautions.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and the most preventable. According to the CDC, there are over 5 million cases of skin cancer every year in the US. In as little as 15minutes, unprotected skin can be damaged by the sun’s harmful UV rays. There are three types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and Melanoma. Skin protection should be practiced all year long and use several different kinds.
-Have a long- sleeved shirt or coverup available.
--Wear a wide brimmed hat to cover your face, head, ears and neck.
--Sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays.
--Wear sunscreen with 15 SPF or higher that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. High SPF is recommended for children.

August 3rd is National watermelon day. Enjoy!

Students head back to school August 9th. Please watch your speeds near bus stops. More children and their parents out walking too.

Members continue to run duty, answer emergency call and participate in training and community outreach events. They enjoyed the stand-by in the Harbour for the fireworks on July 4th.
