It is September already! The kids have been back in school a couple of weeks now and life and traffic are getting to a new normal. Hopefully, you have figured out the bus schedule and are planning trips accordingly. Please follow the speed limit in the Harbour. Too many cars are travelling beyond the 25mph speed limit. I have seen too many that are closer to 40! I have also seen many close calls at intersections with cars not coming to a complete stop or ignoring the stop sign completely. Be especially careful at the first Aquia /Harpoon convergence. Cars at the stop sign on outgoing Aquia Drive cannot always see the vehicles coming up the hill on incoming Aquia Drive. The close calls are with the cars staying left to Harpoon Dive. There are many joggers, dog walkers and strollers out there for the excess speeding. Part of our job at the Rescue Squad is public education and awareness. There are children at the bus stops now to watch for also.

This past month we have had 3 members resign for the Squad due to retirement or health/personal issues. The squad would like to recognize Roxanne Dunn, Joanne Jensen, and Kathy Webster for their service to the Aquia Harbour and Stafford Communities. Roxanne has been with the squad for over 8 years as a driver, served as our Supply Lt. and Treasurer during her time with us. She was one of our top 10 call runner for several years. Joanne is joined the squad 4 years ago became an EMT and Driver and has served the last 2 years on the Board of directors. Kathy went from EMT to Advanced EMT during her 3 years with us. She served as Membership Coordinator and Admin. Lt. Kathy was also a top 10 call runner. A big thank you to all three for their time and dedication.
We would also like wot welcome new members, Emma McConnell and Max Wohlschlegel.

National Night Out is back in Stafford on Tuesday, October 5th in the Lowe’s parking lot. There will be many booths from community partners. Several fire and rescue vehicles will be present and other law enforcement displays. AHVRS will be there with free bike helmets for the kids. The helmets are fitted individually so the child gets the correct fit. We will be handing out bike and other safety information bags for the kids. Please wear masks. Hope to see you there.

CPR and first aid classes are being held. Please see our web site for more information. May classes can be individualized to your needs. Tours and station visits are taking place for now.
