Squad Person of the Year 2018
By President Chris Schoon
December 8, 2018

I want to announce our new Squad Person of the Year: Kathy Webster. Kathy was recognized at the Squad’s Banquet in October. Kathy has been with us for just over a year. In that short time, she has become an integral part of our squad. She stepped up in April when our Supply Lt. relocated to North Carolina. Kathy is an EMT-B, very committed to her patients and crew. Her organizational skills were put to the test in organizing our EMS Week Open House. Kathy lives out of County but travels to Stafford to volunteer on the ambulance. She has volunteered for other projects with an “I don’t know how to do it I’ll make some calls and find out” attitude. Great Job Kathy!
Bob Holcombe was given the President’s Award by outgoing President Angela Wilhelm. Bob is an EMT- and has also completed the Firefighter course with Angela. Bob is a life member with over 12 years of service with the Squad. Bob has served as Treasurer for many terms and is a Voice of Reason on our Board of Directors.
New EMT- B: Another member earning her EMT -B certification this year is Joanne Jensen. Joanne is working hard on her release packet usually running with the Friday or Saturday night crews. Congratulations, Joanne!
Holiday Safety
Be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions for the number of light strands to connect.
Candles- 2 out of 5 holiday fires are started by candles.
Keep candles at least 12 inches from anything that burns
Christmas Trees – lovely to look at but can be lethal. 1 of every 31 reported Christmas tree fires resulted in death. Keep the tree at least 3 feet away from heat sources, like fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles or heat vents. Make sure your tree does not block you exits.
Get rid of your tree after Christmas or when it is dry. For more on fire safety visit the US Fire Administration web site www.usfa.fema.gov
The Members of the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks for your Support!
