Come join the members of the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad on Sunday May 15th from 1-3pm at our station located at 1001 Washington Drive just inside the Aquia Harbour gate for an EMS Week Open House. There will be ambulance and fire engine tours (as long as there are no 911 calls), first aid learning stations, CPR demonstrations, and free refreshments.
EMS week was instituted by the American College of Emergency Physicians back in 1994 under President Gerald Ford’s administration. In 1992 the date was moved to the third week in May. This is a time to celebrate and thank the career and volunteer EMS providers across the country. Whether they are a Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) Intermediate or Basic, EVOC drivers, our First Responders or emergency dispatchers, they all play a vital role in emergency response in our community.
The EMS providers are there for the worst or the best day of our lives. Be it treating a dying car crash victim or delivering a baby. EMS is there. Providing comfort for a cancer patient or splinting a child’s arm after a fall out of a tree. EMS providers do it because they care.
This year’s EMS week theme is “Called to Care.”
Hope to see you on May 15th.
